TRIP DETAILS
How challenging is this trip?
This hike is an extremely strenuous physical challenge. Only those in strong physical condition who have trained should book this trip.
You will cover 17 miles and 5,000 feet of elevation gain and loss in a single day. Much of the trail involves climbing steep stone staircases, and the hike typically takes 12-15 hours of sustained effort.
To reach the summit, you’ll ascend the famous Half Dome cables by pulling yourself up a steep 45° slope. This section requires upper body strength and the ability to stay composed at heights.
Do you guarantee we'll make it to the top?
No, summiting Half Dome cannot be guaranteed.
Your guide will make every effort to get you to the summit, but your safety always comes first. If weather conditions such as rain, lightning, or developing storm clouds make the cables unsafe, we will not continue to the summit and will choose an alternate plan.
This is a steep and strenuous climb, and not everyone chooses to ascend the cables. Some hikers prefer to enjoy the experience from the base. If a hiker is unable to maintain the required pace to reach the summit safely, the guide may ask them to wait at a designated point while the group continues and returns.
How scary are the Half Dome cables?
The cables are steep and can feel exposed, especially for those with a fear of heights. That said, most hikers are able to complete them by taking their time and staying focused. Your guide will be there to offer support, encouragement, and tips for a safe ascent!
